My affair with Thai food started long back during our first trip to Thailand, incidentally also our first international trip. I fell in love with this richly aromatic and spicy cuisine with my first bite of Thai red curry. My desire to discover more Thai food experiences hasn’t stopped since then. A good bowl of flavorsome Thai food can make me happy instantly. And I love it when I am able to find a good Thai restaurant when I travel. And as luck would have it, we were invited by Giggling Squid restaurant during our Windsor trip.

After our visit to Windsor Castle, it was time for lunch. We stopped by at the Giggling Squid restaurant on Thames Street in Windsor, for a quick bite. As we stepped in, the first thing that got me hooked was the delicious aroma of Thai food. Wouldn’t you agree that aromatic food always leads to a great dining experience? The other thing that I noticed was that the place had many families with kids. And the children seemed to be enjoying the food.

The decor is cozy and fresh and the seating is spread across. The tables by the window overlooking the street are for smaller groups while bigger tables are inside. We sat next to a rustic looking bare brick wall that adds a bit of sudden drama to the otherwise floral and chic interiors. We were soon attended by a friendly waitress. She mentioned that they had a special mini tapas menu for children consisting of two small dishes and pudding.

We ordered chicken satay, sticky chicken and Thai chicken wings from the tapas menu along with the house drinks as recommended by the restaurant manager. The little one decided to go with spring roll and fried rice along with his favorite dessert – ice cream. Our starters were fresh and the bold flavors reminded me of the food that we had during our Thailand trip. The presentation was to the point and the food washed down rather well with the wine recommended.

For the main course, we weren’t too hungry and decided to share one dish. I was tempted to order my favorite red curry but ordered Khwae river curry and roti. We had started our day with a relaxing river cruise and I was in the mood to try something new. I was in luck, the curry tasted heavenly. The pork curry seemed to be a mix of the red curry and green curry and was packed with flavors. It was one of the best Thai pork dishes that I have tasted and thinking about it even now makes my mouth water.

Even though we did take a look at the dessert menu we didn’t order anything as we were too full. I thought the Prosecco and muddled berry cheesecake looked sumptuous and would love to order it the next time.

Our overall experience at Giggling Squid restaurant was great and we loved the ambiance and their hospitality. Would highly recommend it if you are visiting Windsor with kids and family. The restaurant located conveniently close to Windsor Castle and the bus stand for Hop on Hop off Bus Tour for sightseeing in Windsor and Eton.

  1. I love the look of the restaurant! And it is great to know that it is kid friendly and that the kids seemed to be enjoying the food. That is always one of the biggest challenges for me. I would be interested to know if they served any vegetarian options-I would love to visit when I’m in the area.
