If you are planning a trip to Andaman and do not have enough time to cover both islands, I am sure you must be wondering about which island to choose. I was googling the same when we were planning our first Andaman trip a couple of years back. We chose Havelock then but I am glad that we covered Neil Island on our last trip with the family.

How to get there: There are daily govt ferries and cruise boats like Makruzz from Port Blair to both Havelock and Neil Island. Both Havelock and Neil Island are also well connected.

There are many other islands in Andaman. In fact, the archipelago which lies between India and Myanmar in the Bay of Bengal has a total of 572 islands. But you cant visit most of the islands as they are inhabited by indigenous tribes like Jarawa and Sentinelese tribes. The Sentinelese are generally hostile to outsiders and the government protects their right to privacy. Many islands are steeped in history and can be visited on day trips only. Incase you have a longer trip to Andaman, here are some more ideas on how to plan a trip to Andaman.

So which Andaman island did you visit? Tell us what you liked…

  1. Hi Pujarini,

Myself Ashokkumar, We are planning to travel to Andaman for three nights as a family. So can you suggest me a which Island to stay ? Neil or Havelock ? My 3 year old kid will also be part of the this trip 🙂 than you

    • Hi Ashok! That sounds exciting. Choose an island based on what you are planning to do. If you looking at just relaxing, go to Neil island but if you also want to spend time on various activities, Havelock is a better choice. Our toddler loved the cleaner and remote beaches of Neil Island more 🙂 Hope this helps….
