If I say Windsor, I am sure the first thing that pops in your mind is Windsor castle. The dreamy castle with its fortifications and round towers no doubt proves to be the highlight of the trip to Windsor. But you do get a different perspective and breathtaking views of the castle and the surrounding countryside through a river cruise on River Thames. You can take river cruises upstream to Maidenhead or downstream to Hampton Court with French Brothers Boat Trips in Windsor. Infact, it’s a great tour to take if you are visiting Windsor with kids. And just before the river cruise starts, the swans come up to the boats and you can feed them.

French Brothers Boat Trips in Windsor

We were invited onboard by French Brothers and the boat ride took us on a round trip through Windsor and Eton. We collected our tickets from Windsor promenade ticket office and also picked up a few bags of bird food to feed the swans. Once the boat anchored, we boarded the boat and took our seats in the lower deck. To my surprise, within seconds I saw a flock of swans than came near my window and my little one was ecstatic feeding the swans. After the boarding was completed the boat honked announcing our departure and the swans vanished in a few seconds.

We had a lovely time listening to the stories of the castle and the way of life in Windsor along with great views from the water all around us. Windsor Castle was built by William, high above the river Thames and on the edge of a Saxon hunting ground. The Castle was originally constructed to guard the western approach to London.

On our cruise, there were many other interesting trivia and tales that were narrated like how the Queen had lived in the dungeons and about the ghosts who are believed to haunt the castle. Some of the major sights that we passed were the Windsor Castle, Eton College, Mill House, Windsor Racecourse & the Brocas Meadows.

The boat ride proved to be a relaxing start to our Windsor trip and a fun way to know more about the history of Windsor. For me, the highlight of the river cruise was just as the waterfront opened up to the panoramic views of the castle. It was the wow moment as we caught the first glimpse of the marvelous architecture acting as the perfect prelude to our visit to the Windsor Castle.

We were invited for a Press Trip to Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead by VisitWindsor.  Please note that all the views and opinions are my own.
